Hiroshi Sugimoto’s Seascapes series began in 1980. Traveling to remote oceans, seas and lakes around the world, he made these meditations on time, with a turn of the century large-format box camera and traditional black-and-white film.
This work is an individual print from Sugmimoto’s Time Exposed portfolio which consists of fifty-one Seascapes taken between 1980 - 1991. Each print is a tri-tone offset lithograph from an edition of 500, printed in 1991 by Kytoto Shoin Co., Japan on the occasion of a Sugimoto retrospective at IBM (Tokyo) and the Carnegie International (Pittsburgh). The print is tipped along the upper edge to a mat with blind embossed title, date and plate number.
Hiroshi Sugimoto was born in Tokyo in 1948 and has lived and worked in New York City and Tokyo since 1974. He has had solo exhibitions at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; MOCA, Los Angeles; The J.
