• Thomas Jackson is a visual artist whose practice combines landscape photography, sculpture, and kinetic art. His site-responsive installations, which he creates and photographs on location, juxtapose brightly colored, manufactured materials with the ephemeral beauty of natural landscapes. In the Spring of this year, Jackson installed and photographed three new pieces while in residency at the Serenbe Art Farm. As this year’s recipient of the Decorative Arts Fellowship, the work will be featured in the 2023 Serenbe Showhouse. Represented by Jackson Fine Art, Thomas’s Serenbe series will also be available for sale, with a portion of the proceeds benefiting The Art Farm.

" After a decade of working in wide open spaces—coastal prairies, beaches, deserts, etc.—a residency at Serenbe was a chance to get back to where my installation practice began: in the woods. When I visited in spring, I found lush, sun-dappled forests carpeted in wildflowers, humming with insects and bird life. The installations I made there feel different from other work I’ve done in recent years. They’re more intimate, more enmeshed with the environments they inhabit. They respond to the trees and the plants in ways I haven’t seen before. I feel like I’ve tapped into a new range of emotions with these images, thanks to the context of a verdant Georgia forest in springtime. It’s amazing what a change of scenery can do."
